Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger / EVSE Permit
VerifiedIdaho Falls has no dedicated EV charger/EVSE fee line or standalone permit category — EV charger (Level 2 or DC fast charging equipment) circuit installation is electrical work reviewed under the National Electrical Code as adopted by the City (currently 2023 NEC) and billed under the same Electrical Permit fee schedule used for any other electrical service work. The City of Idaho Falls Fee Schedule (October 2025, items 2.10-2.13) and Electrical page were checked directly for an EV-specific fee line; none was found. Idaho Falls self-administers electrical permits through its own Chief Electrical Inspector (not routed to Idaho DOPL), so the same general Electrical Permit fee and process applies to EV charger installations as to any other electrical work.

Commercial Remodel / Tenant Improvement (TI) Permit
Required for remodels, tenant improvements, and alterations to existing commercial buildings in Idaho Falls, including changes of occupancy. The City combines remodel and tenant-improvement work under a single checklist and submission-requirements sheet, reviewed against the 2018 IBC/IEBC and related codes adopted by Idaho Falls City Code Title 7. Applications are submitted through the Cityworks online permitting portal.

Fee schedule
| Fee type | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial Building Permit Fee — valuation-based (same schedule as new commercial construction) | $30.18 minimum (valuation up to $800), scaling per the Commercial Building Permit Fees Valuation Table | City of Idaho Falls Fee Schedule (October 2025), item 2.7 — no separate tenant-improvement-specific valuation table exists; TI/remodel permits are billed on the same commercial valuation table as new construction |
| Commercial Plan Check Fee | 65% of the permit valuation | City of Idaho Falls Fee Schedule (October 2025), item 2.8.b — same rate applies to remodel/TI as to new commercial construction |
| Permit Issuance Fee | $30.18 | City of Idaho Falls Fee Schedule (October 2025), item 2.13.a |
| Fire Department Structural Plan Review Fee | 16% of Building Permit Valuation | City of Idaho Falls Fee Schedule (October 2025), item 3.1.g — applies where the Fire Department conducts structural plan review; the checklist for this permit type explicitly calls out fire alarm and fire sprinkler system documentation, suggesting Fire Department review is commonly triggered for TI/remodel work, but the Fee Schedule does not itemize exact trigger criteria |
| Additional Plan Review Fee (for revisions after initial submittal) | $35 per hour or hourly cost to City, whichever is greatest (minimum one-half hour charge) | City of Idaho Falls Fee Schedule (October 2025), item 2.13.e — relevant to TI projects, which the City's own checklist flags as often requiring code-analysis/egress revisions |
