Requirements
- Decks over 30 inches above ground level require a permit
- Any deck with an attached roof requires a permit regardless of height
- Patio covers, non-retractable awnings, and carports require a permit
- Decks not more than 30 inches above ground (uncovered) do NOT require a permit — but Planning approval may still be required; contact the Planning Division at 303-658-2092 before proceeding
- Retaining walls greater than 3 feet, or with surcharge, require a permit (walls 36 inches or less with no surcharge do not)
