How to read this page

Records are rows, one address each, and that is what an address search matches. Permits counts distinct permits. The two differ wherever one permit spans several rows — a permit listing several addresses, or a project whose electrical, mechanical and plumbing work are recorded separately under one number. Both figures are true and answer different questions, so neither is a correction of the other. Searchable is the share of records whose stored address contains letters — a bare house number is present and unusable, so covered and searchable are not the same number and we show both.

Dated, Value and Descr. are the share of a jurisdiction’s records carrying an issue date, a declared valuation, and a description. These are per jurisdiction rather than an average, because the average describes nowhere: valuation runs from 0% to 100% depending on what the source publishes, and several cities publish a declared value for commercial work and none for residential. A 0% in Descr. usually means the source’s only free-text column held people’s names, so we do not carry it.

Years, not dates. Some registers publish a year and no month or day. Printing those as 1 January would invent a date nobody recorded, so this page shows the span in years everywhere rather than implying a precision only some sources have.

Incomplete registers are listed. Where we know a jurisdiction’s register is short — the source stops early, or was a one-off snapshot rather than an ongoing register — it is flagged in the table with the reason. A gap we can describe is worth more to you than a total that hides it.

Figures are derived from the live corpus and baked at build time, so they are current as of 2026-09-15 rather than this moment. Coverage is expanding continuously; this list gets longer.
