Office hours: "Office Hours Monday to Thursday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM", and separately "Counter is CLOSED on Fridays". That is a four-day, seven-hour-a-day counter - 28 hours a week. The Permit Center counter is shared: it "Includes Building, Engineering, Housing and Human Services and Planning", so one queue serves four functions. The division is led by a Permit Center Manager whose name is published on the city's page; the role is recorded here rather than the individual.

Booked by 11:00 PM the night before
"Inspections can be requested no later than 11:00 PM the day before you need the inspection." Requests go through the online inspection request form, or by telephone on (925) 960-4430.

AND THEN CONFIRMED BY PHONE BETWEEN 7 AND 8 AM ON THE DAY
"You may request morning or afternoon inspections, but you will need to call (925) 960-4445 on the day of your inspection between: 7:00-8:00 AM to confirm." The booking alone is not the end of it - a same-morning call is required, and the window is one hour wide.

Five things to leave when you request
"Please leave the permit number, project address, on-site contact name and phone number, the type of inspection and choice of AM or PM."

AM and PM spans, and an afternoon slot that can move EARLIER
"AM inspections are performed between 8:00 and 11:30 AM. PM inspections are performed between 12:00 and 3:30 PM." And unusually: "There will be days that we complete all our inspections in the morning in which case your afternoon inspection will be scheduled for late morning." Most cities warn that a slot may slip later; Livermore warns it may move earlier.

A one-hour arrival window is available for the asking
"You can call to get a one hour arrival time frame or to talk to an inspector by calling (925) 960-4445 between 7-8 AM the morning of your inspection." The same call that confirms the inspection can narrow it from a three-and-a-half-hour span to an hour.

After 8:00 AM the number changes
"If you have questions, changes or cancellations after 8:00 AM, please call (925) 960-4410." Three numbers cover three phases of the same day - one to book, one to confirm before 8, one for everything after.
