Appointments are required", booked through the city's Online Appointment system. Note the separate CONSTRUCTION hours, which are a different thing and are enforceable - Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and per CMC 8.48.010 "no construction work is permitted on any Sunday or Federal holiday."

- 2 P.M. IS THE MOST CONSEQUENTIAL NUMBER ON THE INSPECTION PAGE: before it, next business day; after it, two business days. A request submitted at 2:05 p.m. on a Friday lands on Tuesday. (General)

Read on 2026-09-20 that transition is about seven weeks old, so a contractor working from older instructions is not yet wrong - but only the portal returns correction notes and inspection history. Requests moved into the portal in August 2026, with the webform still running alongside
"Beginning Aug. 3, 2026, building inspection requests will be available in Carlsbad's Self-Service Online Permit Portal", allowing requests "up to a few weeks out", email confirmations when scheduled, and inspection history including "the inspector's correction notes" on a failed inspection. The city adds: "During the transition to requesting online building inspections through the portal, the Building Inspection request webform will remain available."

The 2 p.m. line decides whether you wait one day or two
"Building inspection requests submitted before 2 p.m. will be scheduled for the next business day... Building inspection requests submitted after 2 p.m. will be scheduled in two business days."

"During high inspection volume, holidays and/or staff availability, rollover inspections may occur." And "On city-observed holidays, inspections are not scheduled/performed and will roll over to the next available business day."
