This is PermitBase’s published record for Idaho Falls as of 2026-07-20. It has since been superseded — see the current record. A historical record reflects what PermitBase had verified at that time; it may not capture a real-world change the jurisdiction had made but PermitBase had not yet verified, and it includes any errors we later corrected. Codes adopted

Idaho has a mandatory statewide baseline building code under the Idaho Building Code Act (Idaho Code Title 39, Chapter 41), administered locally by certified jurisdictions. The City of Idaho Falls independently administers its own Building Division (Department of Community Development Services) and adopts its own codes and amendments by ordinance under Idaho Falls City Code Title 7 (Building Regulations), rather than relying on the Idaho Division of Building Safety for direct administration. Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger / EVSE Permit

Verified

Idaho Falls has no dedicated EV charger/EVSE fee line or standalone permit category — EV charger (Level 2 or DC fast charging equipment) circuit installation is electrical work reviewed under the National Electrical Code as adopted by the City (currently 2023 NEC) and billed under the same Electrical Permit fee schedule used for any other electrical service work. The City of Idaho Falls Fee Schedule (October 2025, items 2.10-2.13) and Electrical page were checked directly for an EV-specific fee line; none was found. Idaho Falls self-administers electrical permits through its own Chief Electrical Inspector (not routed to Idaho DOPL), so the same general Electrical Permit fee and process applies to EV charger installations as to any other electrical work.

  • Electrical permit required for EV charger/EVSE circuit installation, per IBC/NEC Section 105.1 as adopted by the City
  • Governed by the National Electrical Code edition currently adopted by the State of Idaho (2023 NEC per the City's Electrical page), including NEC Article 625 (Electric Vehicle Charging System) provisions
  • Electrical contractor must hold Idaho DOPL state electrical licensure; a separate City trade license is not required for electricians
  • Apply through the Cityworks online permitting portal
