Notus building permits

Requirements

• New single-family residence construction requires a building permit and Planning & Zoning approval before Building Department approval
• Residential additions, including attached garages/carports, require a permit
• Residential remodels requiring structural changes require a permit
• Reroofing, free-standing sheds over 200 sq ft, box car units, installation of larger windows, and anything attached to the home (e.g., a patio cover) require a permit per the City's community guidance
• 3 complete sets of plans and specifications required, drawn to scale
• Flood plain determination required on application; elevation certificate required if property is in a flood plain

• Residential Building Permit required from the City of Notus Building Department for the array mounting/structural scope
• 3 complete sets of plans and specifications, drawn to scale, submitted with the application
• Electrical permit for the PV wiring/interconnection must be obtained separately from the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL) / Division of Building Safety, NOT from the City — per the City's own Forms-Apps-Permits page
• No dedicated Solar Permit Application or expedited solar-specific review track is published by the City of Notus or DOPL as of 2026-07-19

• Electrical permit for EV charger wiring/circuit installation must be obtained from the Idaho DOPL Electrical Board, not the City of Notus — confirmed on the City's own Forms-Apps-Permits page
• Contractor Electrical Permit Application or Homeowner Electrical Permit Application (DOPL), purchased via DOPL's online ArcGIS-based permit system
• If the installation involves structural work (e.g., new panel enclosure, mounting structure) a City of Notus Residential Building Permit may also be required for that scope
• No EV-specific permit category, application, or fee schedule is published by the City of Notus or by Idaho DOPL as of 2026-07-20

• Idaho Contractor Name & Registration Number required on the application
• Flood plain determination required on application; elevation certificate required if property is in a flood plain
• Building Code Analysis required, covering construction type, occupant load, required exits, and fire sprinklers
• Applicant must specify building square footage; project use must be specified (if warehouse/storage, the materials to be stored must be specified)

• Tenant Improvement (interior remodel/build-out of an existing commercial space) requires a City of Notus Commercial Building Permit Application under the 'Tenant Improvement' checklist section
• 2 complete sets of plans and specifications required, drawn to scale
• Applicant must state both project square footage AND project value ($) on the application — the 'Project Value' field is specific to the Tenant Improvement checklist and is not present on the 'New Commercial Building' checklist of the same form
• Idaho Contractor Name & Registration Number required on the application
• Building Code Analysis required, covering construction type, occupant load, required exits, and fire sprinklers
• Site Plan, Foundation Plan, Elevations, Drainage Plans, and Landscape Plan are NOT part of the Tenant Improvement checklist (unlike the New Commercial Building checklist on the same form), consistent with TI scope being interior work within an existing shell
