EV Charger / EVSE Permit
VerifiedHayden has no dedicated EV charger or EVSE permit and no distinct fee line item for electric vehicle charging equipment. Electrical permits within Hayden city limits are NOT issued by the City -- the City's own Residential Permit Application Instructions direct applicants to the State of Idaho Division of Building Safety (DOPL) for electrical permits and inspections. An EV charger circuit is not a power-generation or energy-storage system, so it does not require a City structural/building permit. On the DOPL Contractor Electrical Permit Worksheet, EV charger circuits fall under the general 'Other Installations including Commercial/Industrial/Solar/Renewable Energy' valuation-based fee formula (the same formula used for solar, just without the Solar/Renewable Energy checkbox), since no dedicated EV/EVSE line item exists on the state form.

Requirements
- No City of Hayden building permit is required for a standard EV charger installation -- only electrical work is involved
- Electrical permit issued by the State of Idaho Division of Building Safety (DOPL), NOT the City of Hayden -- apply online at dbs.idaho.gov or by phone at (800) 955-3044
- On the DOPL worksheet, EV charger circuits fall under 'OTHER INSTALLATIONS including COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL/SOLAR/RENEWABLE ENERGY' -- this category 'shall apply to any and all electrical installations not specifically mentioned elsewhere on this form,' and EV/EVSE circuits have no dedicated line item, so they fall under this catch-all
- Do NOT check the 'Solar, Renewable Energy, power generation, power production, or energy storage systems' box on the DOPL worksheet for a straight EV charger install -- the fee formula is identical either way
- Governed by the National Electrical Code (NEC) as adopted statewide by the Idaho Electrical Board (Idaho Code Title 54, Chapter 10)
