Inspection sequence

Applies to: Basement Finish Permit

  1. 1

    Framing

    Wall framing, fire blocking, egress window wells and openings.

  2. 2

    MEP Rough-In

    Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC rough-ins before walls closed.

  3. 3

    Insulation

    Insulation on exterior walls, vapor barrier placement.

  4. 4

    Final

    Drywall, fixtures, smoke/CO detectors, and all finishes complete.

Applies to: Commercial Building Permit

    Foundation / Footing

    Before concrete pour — verify excavation, forms, rebar, and anchor bolts

  2. 2

    Underground / Rough-In (MEP)

    Before backfill and before closing walls or ceilings

  3. 3

    Framing

    After framing, sheathing, and rough-in mechanical/electrical/plumbing

  4. 4

    Final

    All work complete — includes necessary inspections; additional visits are charged the $50 reinspection fee

Applies to: Residential Building Permit

    Foundation / Footing

    Before concrete pour — verify excavation, forms, rebar, and anchor bolts. Call inspection hotline (385) 910-5830 by 3:00 PM for next business day; provide approximate time window between 8:30 AM and 3:00 PM for concrete inspections.

    Framing

    After framing, sheathing, and roof — before insulation or wall cover. MSD stamped plans must be on-site printed full size.

  3. 3

    Insulation

    After insulation installed, before drywall.

  4. 4

    Final

    All work complete, ready for occupancy. Certificate of Occupancy issued upon passing.

    Footings

    Verify footing depth (below frost line, typically 30 inches in Wasatch Front area), diameter, and rebar before concrete pour.

  2. 2

    Framing

    Posts, beams, joists, ledger connection, and hardware.

  3. 3

    Final

    Decking, stairs, guards, and railings complete — 36-inch guard height required at 30+ inches above grade.

    Rough-In

    After wiring installed, before walls closed — verify box placement, wire sizing, proper support.

    Service / Panel

    Panel installation, grounding electrode system, service entrance conductors.

    Underground / Slab

    Before concrete pour — verify pipe slope, materials, and cleanouts.

    Rough-In

    After pipes installed, before walls closed — pressure test required.

    Final

    All fixtures connected, water flowing, no leaks, proper venting verified.
