Sign Permit
VerifiedLa Paz County permits signs and billboards in the unincorporated county through its standard building-permit process — 'Sign/Billboard' is one of the permit types on the county's Building Permit Application — and prices them per square foot of sign face in Exhibit D of the adopted fee schedule. Exhibit D carries two separate rate tables, non-illuminated and illuminated, each broken out by sign type (roof, wall, projecting, pole, billboard) and by number of faces. The county's Billboard Sign Permit Checklist applies to all signs 12 square feet or greater.

Requirements
- A permit is required for all signs 12 square feet or greater; the checklist expressly does not apply to traffic control, directional, or public informational signs (La Paz County Community Development, Billboard Sign Permit Checklist)
- Check the 'Sign/Billboard' permit type on the County's Building Permit Application (https://www.lapaz.gov/DocumentCenter/View/9679)
- Submit an application form, a vicinity map, a site plan (see the county's 'General Site Plan Checklist'), scaled drawings of the sign showing size, height, type, location and number of faces, and photos or drawings of the proposed sign location
- Fees are charged per square foot of sign face and differ both by whether the sign is illuminated and by the number of faces — a two-face sign is billed at a higher per-square-foot rate than a one-face sign of the same type
- Apply through the iworq Citizen Portal (https://lapazcountyapplypermit.portal.iworq.net/portalhome/lapazcountyapplypermit) or in person/by mail at 1112 Joshua Ave., Ste. 202, Parker, AZ 85344
- Know your Assessor's Parcel Number (APN) before applying — County staff will not search it for you (http://publicrecords.lapazassessor.com/assessor/web/)
- Work started without an approved permit is assessed an investigation fee equal and in addition to the required permit fee (total due is double the permit fee), with a minimum of $100.00 (Resolution No. 2026-11, Exhibit D, page 6 of 13)

Fire Sprinkler / Fire Alarm System Permit
VerifiedLa Paz County adopts the International Fire Code, 2018 Edition (including Appendices B, C, D, E, F and I) and issues fire alarm and fire sprinkler system permits itself through the Community Development Department's Building and Safety Division — it does not relegate them to a fire district. Both systems are priced per square foot at separate residential and commercial rates, with a $150.00 flat plan review fee dedicated to fire alarm and sprinkler submittals.

Requirements
- The International Fire Code, 2018 Edition, including Appendix B, C, D, E, F, and I, is adopted by reference — Ordinance No. 2026-01 ('Building Ordinance for Unincorporated Areas Of La Paz County', recorded 2026-03319, effective August 06, 2026), Section 101.1(A)(10), page 3 of 29
- The County's Building Permit Application carries 'FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM: YES / NO' and 'FIRE ALARM SYSTEM: YES / NO' fields in the block headed 'THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS REQUIRED FOR COMMERCIAL, INDUSTRIAL, AND SOME RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS' (https://www.lapaz.gov/DocumentCenter/View/9679)
- Fire alarm and fire sprinkler permit fees carry the '**' marker in the fee schedule, which maps to the page footnote '**PLUS THE VALUE OF ANY UTILITIES INSTALLED' — budget the separate Utilities trade fee on top
- Apply through the iworq Citizen Portal (https://lapazcountyapplypermit.portal.iworq.net/portalhome/lapazcountyapplypermit) or in person/by mail at 1112 Joshua Ave., Ste. 202, Parker, AZ 85344
- Must use an Arizona-licensed contractor (A.R.S. §32-1151); a permit shall not be issued to any person proposing to contract the work unless the contractor holds a valid, unexpired and unrevoked Registrar of Contractors licence (Ordinance No. 2026-01, Building Permits, subsection B, page 9 of 29)
- Work started without an approved permit is assessed an investigation fee equal and in addition to the required permit fee (total due is double the permit fee), minimum $100.00 (Resolution No. 2026-11, Exhibit D, page 6 of 13)
