How to schedule

Inspections are requested through the building department below.

Address
44933 Fern Avenue, Lancaster, CA 93534
Phone
661-723-6000 (City); TDD Relay Service 1-800-735-2922
Office hours
"Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm M-F" - a full five-day week with no published midday closure. THESE ARE THE CITY'S OWN FOOTER HOURS rather than counter hours stated by Building and Safety itself, so this record does not claim the permit counter keeps them; the division's pages publish no separate times. Call 661-723-6000 if the difference matters to your trip.

Inspection sequence

Applies to: Building Permit

  1. 1

    Two-hour windows since December 2025, replacing AM/PM

"*NOTICE: Beginning December 1, 2025, our inspection schedule will transition to a two-hour time window system instead of the current AM/PM format. Each morning at 7:30 a.m., the permit contact will receive an email confirming their assigned two-hour inspection window for that day." The city says the intent is "to improve efficiency, reduce wait times, and provide clearer daily scheduling information".

  2. 2

BE READY AT 8:00 EVEN IF THE EMAIL HAS NOT ARRIVED

"The first inspection will begin at 8:00 a.m., so contractors/applicants should plan to be ready at that time even if they have not yet received their email." The notification goes out at 7:30 and the obligation starts at 8:00, so a late email does not move the duty - the two are deliberately not aligned and the city says so.

  3. 3

    You can text your inspector

"You will still have the ability to text your inspector to maintain open communication and coordinate as needed." SMS as a published, sanctioned channel to a named individual is unique in this corpus - elsewhere the routes are a portal, a phone line or an automated system.

  4. 4

Book by 2:00 pm the day before

"the deadline to schedule an inspection will be 2:00 pm the day before the requested date."

  5. 5

PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOS ARE NOT ACCEPTED

"Photographs and videos are not accepted for inspection purposes." An explicit refusal of remote evidence, which is the opposite of the virtual-inspection routes some cities in this corpus publish. Combined with "The work shall remain accessible and exposed for inspection purposes until it has been approved", the inspection is unavoidably physical.
