Electrical Permit

Verified

Electrical work in Haxtun is inspected by the Colorado State Electrical Board (DORA), not the Town's own inspector, per the Town's own permit application instructions. The Town's Building Permit Application still collects an Electric Tap Fee as the municipal utility provider, and HMC § 150.11 adopts the 2023 NEC as the applicable code, but inspection authority for electrical work rests with the State.

Verified 2026-07-06 · Source

Requirements

  • All new electrical installations and electrical improvements must be inspected by a State of Colorado inspector (State Electrical Board) before electricity can be supplied — per the Town's own Building Permit Application form
  • Allow up to 3 days for the state electrical inspection to be completed
  • Governed by the 2023 NEC as locally adopted, HMC § 150.11
  • If a new electric tap or service is involved, the Town's own Electric Tap Fee ($1,000 normal residential 200-Amp service) or Upgrade Electric Fee ($500 for overhead-to-underground conversion) applies as the municipal utility provider, separate from the state inspection process

Plumbing Permit

Required for plumbing installation, alteration, or repair in Haxtun. Governed by the 2021 International Plumbing Code (IPC) as locally adopted and amended (HMC § 150.10, Ord. 2025-1). Unlike electrical work, the Town's own permit application does not direct plumbing to a state inspector — plumbing is reviewed/inspected under the Town's own adopted code and validated by the Town's Building Inspector.

Requirements

  • Governed by the 2021 IPC as locally amended by HMC § 150.10: sewer depth requirement filled in at 12 inches (amended from a blank template value), first paragraph of drainage/vent air test (IPC 312.3) deleted, roof extension minimum set at 12 inches, reclaimed water systems (IPC 1304) deleted entirely
  • Water Tap Fee ($2,000 normal residential 3/4-inch) and Sewer Tap Fee ($2,000 normal residential 4-inch) apply as separate municipal utility charges when a new tap is required, in addition to the plumbing/building permit fee
  • Plumbing contractors must hold applicable Colorado State Plumbing Board (DORA) licensure per general state law

Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Permit

Verified

Required for rooftop solar PV installations in Haxtun. Electrical connection work is subject to the State of Colorado electrical inspection process described under the Electrical Permit type; the installation itself is governed by the Colorado Model Electric Ready and Solar Ready Code (HMC § 150.09, adopted June 1, 2023 edition, via Ord. 2025-1) plus the 2023 NEC (HMC § 150.11).

Re-confirmed 2026-07-20 by re-fetching the Town's live 'Application for Building Permit' PDF directly (full-text search for 'solar'/'photovoltaic' found no dedicated fee line) — the general valuation table is genuinely the current, applicable figure for a solar PV permit in Haxtun, not an unresolved gap. Also checked: Haxtun does not appear on SolarAPP+'s Colorado participant list (gosolarapp.org/landing-pages/solarapp-colorado — only Bennett, Wheat Ridge, Denver, Alamosa County, and Gilpin County offer full SolarAPP+ plan review as of this check), and Colorado's statewide solar-permit fee cap (C.R.S. 24-48.5-113, formerly cited elsewhere as 24-32-3312, which is actually an unrelated manufactured-housing statute) caps aggregate solar fees at $500 residential/$1,000 nonresidential — Haxtun's general valuation-based fee for a typical residential solar install falls well under that statutory ceiling, consistent with the town's own published table.

Demolition Permit

Demolition of a dangerous or existing building in Haxtun is addressed through the Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings (1991 Edition, HMC § 150.06) for unsafe structures, and through the general Application for Building Permit process for a voluntary/planned demolition.

Reviewed 2026-07-06 · Source

Requirements

  • Structures found to endanger life, limb, health, safety, or welfare are subject to the Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings (HMC § 150.06), which provides a process for required repair, vacation, or demolition
  • In case of conflict between the Dangerous Building Code and any other specific municipal code provision, the specific municipal code provision prevails (HMC § 150.06(B))
  • General demolition (non-dangerous-building) still requires an Application for Building Permit

EV Charger / EVSE Permit

Verified

Haxtun has no dedicated EV charger or EVSE permit and no distinct fee line item for electric vehicle charging equipment. An EV charger installation is billed under the Town's general valuation-based Application for Building Permit (the same combined form and fee table used for all building-related work, including the rooftop solar PV permit's structural scope), and the electrical/circuit work must be inspected by a State of Colorado electrical inspector rather than the Town, exactly as with any other new electrical installation. Colorado's HB24-1173 (Electric Vehicle Charging System Permits, 2024) requires expedited EV-charger permitting only for counties with 20,000+ population and municipalities with 10,000+ population -- Haxtun (population under 1,000) falls well below that threshold and is not a covered municipality under the statute.

Verified 2026-07-20 · Source

Requirements

  • Application for Building Permit (Town of Haxtun) required for the installation, using the general valuation-based fee schedule -- no dedicated EV/EVSE fee line exists
  • All new electrical installations and electrical improvements, including EV charger circuits, must be inspected by a State of Colorado electrical inspector before electricity can be supplied -- allow up to 3 days for that inspection, per the Town's own permit application instructions
  • Haxtun is below the population thresholds (10,000 for municipalities) set by Colorado HB24-1173, so the statute's mandatory model-code/expedited-review requirement for EV charger permits does not apply here
  • Permit holders must call UNCC (811) for all utility locates before work begins
