Inspection sequence

Applies to: Residential Building Permit (New Construction)

  1. 1

    Foundation Inspection

    Made after excavations for footings are complete and required reinforcing steel is in place, before concrete placement; conducted by CID under the same statewide inspection framework applied in other NM CID-administered jurisdictions

  2. 2

    Concrete Slab / Under-Floor Inspection

    Made after all in-slab or under-floor building service equipment, conduit, and piping are in place, but before concrete is placed or floor sheathing installed

  3. 3

    Frame Inspection

    Made after roof, framing, fire blocking, and bracing are in place; the City's Homeowner's Building Permit Application confirms general-construction (frame/final) inspections will not proceed until plumbing, electrical, and mechanical inspections have passed CID

  4. 4

    Final Inspection

    Made after finish grading and building completion; final electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspections must be conducted first. CID issues the Certificate of Occupancy after approving the final inspection

Applies to: Change of Use / Change of Occupancy Permit

    Final Inspection / Certificate of Occupancy Inspection

    Verifies the structure complies with the applicable code for its new occupancy classification; no occupancy change is permitted until this inspection is approved and a C/O or approved final inspection is issued, per 14.5.3.13 NMAC

    Fire Code Official Inspection

    Verifies compliance with the amended IFC Section 102.3 change-of-occupancy provisions, particularly where the new use is more hazardous (life/fire risk) than the existing use

    Verification that footing/foundation removal and utility capping are complete before site restoration

    Site restoration complete; dumping tickets provided to the building inspector

    Required to be recorded as complete before the fire protection system is approved by the State Fire Marshal or local Fire Marshal, per 10.25.5.18(G) NMAC

    Post-Installation Inspection and Maintenance Verification

    Ongoing inspection/maintenance per applicable NFPA standards and the 2021 IFC, performed by an individual holding a current State Fire Marshal Certificate of Fitness; records submitted to the City of Gallup Fire Prevention office within 14 calendar days of each inspection

    Required upon removal of the existing roof, before new roofing material is applied
