Inspection sequence

Applies to: Residential Building Permit (New Construction / Addition / Remodel)

  1. 1

    Setbacks and Footings

    Address posted at road; property lines stringlined for setback verification; building location confirmed per approved plans; rebar in place if required; R-10 insulation and vapor barrier verified for daylight basements and slab-on-grade per plan. Request via inspection line (208-454-7460) by 4:00 PM for next business day.

  2. 2

    Pre-Floor

    Anchor bolts installed per code/approved plans; hot-dipped galvanized fasteners used for floor joist hangers to pressure-treated mudsills; pony walls built per design; point loads to footings verified; interior shear and shear blocking per approved plans.

  3. 3

    Shear Panel

    Required shear panels located and fastened per code or engineer spec; galvanized nailing at bottom of all panels into pressure-treated mudsill; OSB with minimum 1" clearance above adjacent slab; portal framing and uplift straps/hold-downs per approved plans; tall wall engineering if applicable.

  4. 4

    Weather Barrier / Window Install

    Windows installed and flashed per manufacturer specs; building wrap installed per manufacturer specs; safety glazing (tempered) and fall protection at required locations; emergency escape and rescue openings at required locations.

  5. 5

    Framing

    All rough-in trade inspections (electrical, plumbing, mechanical via DOPL/DBS as applicable, fire sprinklers if applicable) completed before framing sign-off; trusses per engineered design (engineering on site); air seal and fire stopping complete; stairs meet code; point loads to footings; smoke detectors at required locations; crawl space access size; modifications to MEP systems checked. All colored stamped plans and engineering on site.

    Energy

    All prior framing corrections resolved; attic insulation depth markers present; insulation properly installed; attic access size and locations; garage common wall R-20 (2x6).

  7. 7

    Final

    All trade final inspections (electrical, plumbing, mechanical via DOPL/DBS, fireplace, fire sprinklers as applicable) completed; SWDH, fire district, and driveway requirements met; flood zone elevation certificate from engineer in office if applicable; street address visible from public way; final exterior grading complete; egress/escape/rescue/safety glazing/smoke-CO detectors verified; stairs, guardrails, insulation certificate; garage self-closing door and penetration sealing; crawl space and attic completed per plans.

    1st Inspection — Setbacks and Footings (Pole Barn)

    Address posted at road; property lines string-lined; flood zone requirements verified; hole size and depth per approved plans; pole attachments for concrete verified; poles on site verified by size and make per approved plans. Source: Pole Barn Inspection List (Revised 11-19-25)

    2nd Inspection — Framing (Pole Barn)

    No panels installed so inspector can verify column-to-girder-truss attachment per plans; proper nailing; girder attachment and girder blocking per truss engineering (verify girder trusses are for pole barn construction); man door location; all blocking per design; rough-in mechanical, electrical, plumbing passed if applicable. Colored stamped plans on site.

    Final (Pole Barn)

    Man door has level landing on both sides; roofing and siding installed per design; final mechanical, electrical, and plumbing passed if applicable; final grade slopes away from building.

    All trade final inspections (electrical, plumbing, mechanical via DOPL/DBS as applicable, fire sprinklers) completed; all permit conditions met including SWDH, Fire District, and driveway requirements; exterior grading complete; address visible from public way
