Tips
- This permit is required even though the structure itself is exempt from a full building permit — a short list of items (fences under 7 ft, retaining walls under 4 ft, small water tanks, short sidewalks/driveways, shade cloth structures, small solar collectors, membrane carport covers, flagpoles, small unlit signs) do NOT require even a zoning placement permit.
- Agricultural-exempt buildings require proof of a bona fide agricultural operation (tax Schedule F/C or Farm Services Agency registration) and cannot be used as a garage, residential shop, home, rental unit, or place of employment.
