Inspection sequence
Applies to: Residential Building Permit (Single Family Dwelling)

Consultation
One pre-construction consultation per permit, per Grantsville City's official Inspection List.

Footing / Spot Footing Inspection
Footing must be formed with steel hung in place, on natural ground without fill material, without ice or standing water; setbacks must be staked. A Soils Observation Report (Geotechnical Engineer approval) is required prior to or at time of this inspection.

Foundation / Pier / Column Inspection
Formed with steel tied in place, including all concrete-to-structure straps required by plans.

Under Slab Plumbing / Heating / Electrical Inspections
All under-slab piping, ductwork, and electrical (including ground wiring to ground rods) must be left fully exposed until inspected; plumbing requires a 10-ft head of water or air pressure test.

Log and Beam Grading Inspection
Required for all logs and rough-cut beams before installation; each piece must have a visible ink stamp from a nationally recognized lumber grading organization.

Exterior Sheathing Inspection
Required before any material is installed over structural sheathing; done with the Four-Way Rough Inspection.

Four-Way Rough Inspection
Done before insulation is installed; rough framing, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing must be complete, with plumbing water/air test ready.

Weather Barrier / Insulation / Sheet Rock Inspections
Weather barrier inspection precedes stucco/siding; insulation inspection follows wall/floor insulation per approved energy analysis; sheet rock inspection (garages with living space above only) occurs once sheet rock is glued/nailed/screwed in place.

Final Inspection (and Off-Site Final)
Done when the structure is ready for occupancy; no personal items permitted in the structure until occupancy is issued. Both the in-house Final and Off-Site Final inspections must pass for Occupancy to be released.
