When you need this permit
- Built to the 2021 editions of the IBC, IEBC, IRC, IMC, UPC and IECC as amended by the Washington State Building Code Council
- Kent's adoption takes state amendments "from time to time", so the governing text can change during a long project
- Vesting attaches only when the building official determines the application is FULLY COMPLETE
- Appeals go to the city hearing examiner within 14 calendar days

KENT'S PERMIT FEE AMOUNTS ARE NOT IN ITS CODE. KCC 14.01.100 provides in full that "The city council shall, by resolution, establish the fees to be assessed to implement and operate the codes adopted in this chapter." So no amount is printed here - the schedule is a council resolution, published and changed separately. Ask the City of Kent for the current fee resolution. ONE FEE-ADJACENT RULE IS IN THE CODE: an appeal to the hearing examiner "shall be accompanied by payment of the filing fee", so appealing is not free.Review timeline

Tips
- A complete application vests your LAND USE regulations - the chapter does not say it vests the building code
- The hearing examiner cannot waive a building code requirement, only hear its application
- Watch for sections tagged "Amended" in the online code: that means an uncodified ordinance is already in force

Kent's permit history isn't searchable here yet
This page covers what the permit requires. What we don't have for Kent yet is the record of permits actually issued — the history you'd search by street address. That is a gap in our coverage, not a statement about any particular property.
