Codes adopted
The State Building Code is in effect in every county and city in Washington, and its minimum performance standards may not be diminished locally. - RCW 19.27 and RCW 19.27.020 — the Washington State Building Code, named as the authority for the adoption; RCW 70.92 is cited for barrier-free access.

Tips & gotchas
- CHECK THE EDITION FIRST. The published code adopts the 2012 International codes by an ordinance from 2013 and does NOT adopt future editions automatically; Washington's state code is now 2021. Ask the city which it enforces.
- The IRC is adopted with Chapters 11 and 25 through 43 excluded — the residential energy, plumbing and electrical chapters are not part of it here.
- Local design criteria are published in the code itself: ground snow load 39 lbs/ft2, minimum roof snow load 30 lbs/ft2, wind gust 85 mph, seismic category C, frost line depth 24 inches.
- Patio covers (Appendix I) and signs (Appendix H) are inside the adopted building code.
- Where AHMC Chapter 15.03's general requirements conflict with a referenced code, the general requirements apply.
