Fence Permit in Colorado City, Arizona
Required for fence construction in Colorado City under the Town's own Fence and Setback Requirements sections (Town Code §§ 150.35-150.39), which impose specific pool-barrier, utility-clearance, corner-lot, and right-of-way rules in addition to the Building Code's general fence-height permit exemption.

When you need this permit
- Fence permits are required per the Building Code (Town Code § 150.36-area provision)
- Residential fences up to 8 feet high are exempt from a general building permit under the Town's amendment to IBC Section 105.2 (Item 2: 6 ft replaced with 8 ft) — but the separate fence-specific requirements below still apply regardless of height
- Fencing or walls at least 5 feet high, with self-closing/self-latching gates, are required around permanent swimming pools, Jacuzzis, and similar structures
- No fence may be erected within a 3-foot radius of a fire hydrant or power pole
- Power distribution lines carry a 20-foot easement centered on the line; damage to fences during utility repair/maintenance access is at the occupant's expense
- Fences may not be placed in the road right-of-way without written Town permission; applicant is responsible for properly surveying and identifying property lines
- No solid fence or wall above 4 feet may be built on a corner lot within the sight triangle (25 feet from the intersection along both street property lines)
- Public-safety fences enclosing utilities, retaining walls, culverts, walkways, and drainage channels are exempt from these fence chapter requirements
- The Planning and Zoning Commission may require fence erection as a prerequisite to project/permit approval where deemed necessary to protect life/property or separate commercial from residential zones

Tips
- Colorado City has a dedicated, fairly detailed fence ordinance (Town Code §§ 150.35-150.39) layered on top of the general Building Code permit-exemption amendment — a fence under 8 feet may be exempt from a BUILDING permit under § 150.01(B), but a FENCE PERMIT is still separately required per § 150.36-area text, and pool/spa barrier, corner-lot, and utility-clearance rules apply regardless of the general height exemption.
- The Town's pool/spa barrier height requirement (5 feet) is notably lower than some other Arizona jurisdictions (which often require 60 inches / 5 feet as well, but some cities like Buckeye specify additional mesh-fence/chain-link/gate-latch technical detail not found in Colorado City's ordinance text).
- Corner-lot sight-triangle restrictions (no solid fence/wall over 4 ft within 25 ft of the intersection) apply on top of the general fence-height rules — confirm lot corner status before design.
