Rooftop Solar / Photovoltaic Permit in Pierce, Colorado
Required for solar panel installations in Pierce. Solar panels are explicitly named on the Building Permits page as requiring a permit. Governed by the 2023 NEC as adopted for the electrical portion; the Town's Design Criteria page separately lists a state-level 'Solar Ready' requirement applicable to new construction, distinct from a retrofit solar installation permit.

When you need this permit
- Solar panels are explicitly listed on the Building Permits page as a project type requiring a permit
- Electrical work governed by the 2023 NEC as adopted
- No dedicated solar-specific submittal checklist is published by the Town as of the last verification; solar installations appear to be processed through the same combined Building Permit Application as other electrical work
- New construction is separately subject to a state-level 'Solar Ready' provision noted on the Design Criteria page (part of the same Electric Ready / Solar Ready / EV Ready bundle consistent with Colorado's HB22-1362 energy-code floor) — this is a new-construction code-compliance requirement, not itself a distinct permit type

The Town does not publish a distinct photovoltaic fee category, unlike jurisdictions with a state-fee-schedule electrical pass-through (e.g. Vail's Section B 'All Other' PV-named category). Colorado caps the aggregate of all charges for a solar permit at the lesser of the Town's actual cost or $500.00 for a residential application and $1,000.00 for a nonresidential one, for systems under 2 MW DC — C.R.S. § 24-48.5-113 and § 31-15-602(4)(b)(I)(A) as amended by HB21-1284, in force until 31 December 2029. The cap governs where the valuation calculation exceeds it.Review timeline

Tips
- Pierce names solar panels explicitly as requiring a permit but does not publish a dedicated solar checklist or fee category — confirm submittal expectations directly with Town Hall or SAFEbuilt before applying.
- New construction in Pierce is separately subject to a 'Solar Ready' code provision noted on the Design Criteria page — this applies to new buildings regardless of whether solar panels are installed immediately, and is distinct from this permit type for an actual PV installation.
