Codes adopted

The State Building Code is in effect in every county and city in Washington, and its minimum performance standards may not be diminished locally. A local amendment that affects single-family or multifamily residential buildings is not effective unless the State Building Code Council approves it; amendments to non-residential provisions carry no such approval requirement.

  • INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE, 2021 EDITION. CMC 15.04.010 adopts "the International Building Code, 2021 Edition, including Appendix Chapters E and I, as published by the International Code Council". (Ord. 1442, 2008; Ord. 1594, 2018; Ord. 1646, 2021; Ord. 1716, 2024)
  • INTERNATIONAL RESIDENTIAL CODE, 2021 EDITION, WITH CHAPTERS CARVED OUT. Show full text

INTERNATIONAL RESIDENTIAL CODE, 2021 EDITION, WITH CHAPTERS CARVED OUT. CMC 15.05.010 adopts "the International Residential Code, 2021 Edition, including Appendix Chapters E, G and H, and specifically excluding Chapters 11 and 25 through 43". The exclusions matter: Chapter 11 is energy and Chapters 25 through 43 are the plumbing, mechanical and electrical provisions, and Clarkston adopts those separately. (Ord. 1441, 2008; Ord. 1598, 2018; Ord. 1650, 2021; Ord. 1712, 2024)

  • Clarkston adopts each code in its own chapter rather than in one omnibus section: CMC 15.04 IBC, 15.05 IRC, 15.06 IEBC, 15.08 Electrical, 15.12 Uniform Plumbing, 15.28 IPMC, 15.32 IMC and 15.36 Energy Code.
  • RCW 19.27 - the Washington State Building Code applies statewide.

Clarkston's permit history isn't searchable here yet

This page covers what the permit requires. What we don't have for Clarkston yet is the record of permits actually issued — the history you'd search by street address. That is a gap in our coverage, not a statement about any particular property.

Your email, and the place — never an address. We only use it to tell you when Clarkston lands. Privacy.

Tips & gotchas

  • THE FEE TABLE YOU WILL FIND IN THE ONLINE CODE IS REPEALED. Ordinance 1744, adopted 10 August 2026, replaces the matrix at CMC 15.40.010 and repeals the ordinance that made it. The code site says it includes legislation only through 02-09-2026.
  • The city's own "Building Permit Fees" link points at that repealed chapter. The link works; the table behind it is out of date.
  • Fences, re-roofs and siding are permit work in Clarkston - the city names all three.
  • Residential reroofing that does not require resheathing is exempt from a permit.
  • Clarkston sets a 110 mph wind speed in its IRC adoption and states no other design criterion there - no snow load, no seismic category, no frost depth.
  • Clarkston's code lives at ecode360, not codepublishing. The codepublishing address redirects.
  • Check the Asotin County Parcel Map to confirm your address is in the city before applying.
