Fire Sprinkler and Fire Alarm Permit in Queen Creek, Arizona

When you need this permit

  • Submit a minimum of 3 sets of all working drawings (both sprinkler and alarm submittals)
  • For sprinklers: submit 3 sets of hydraulic calculations and manufacturer data sheets for all equipment, i.e. sprinkler heads and backflow preventer
  • Acceptable paper size shall be limited to 24" x 36"
  • Minimum scale shall be 1/8"; text height to be a minimum of 3/32"
  • All submittals shall bear a dated review certification and signature of a minimum level III NICET certified engineering technician (CET) automatic sprinkler systems or an Arizona Registered Professional Engineer — the Town notes this 'shall not reduce the requirements required by the State of Arizona Board of Technical Registration for a registrant's seal'
  • For fire alarms: include voltage drop calculations for each notification appliance circuit showing wire size, circuit current and voltage drop (optional if shown on plans)
  • For fire alarms: include standby battery calculations for each control panel, sub panel, power booster, central station transmitter, and power supply
  • For tenant improvements, no sprinkler submittal is required for adding or relocating 3 heads or less
  • Deviations from approved plans will require approval from the fire code official
  • Field inspection is required for both sprinkler and alarm systems
  • Plan review fees are collected at the time of submittal

Tips

  • Fire systems are carved out of the building permit by name. The Development Services Fee Schedule's very first Building Safety permit line reads 'Building permit - Combination (not including Fire Systems)' — so budget the fire permit and fire plan review fees separately from the building permit.
  • The $250 base is not the whole bill. Both sprinklers and alarms are billed TWICE at $250 — once as a permit fee and once as a plan review fee — so a straightforward single-building sprinkler job starts at $500 before any add-ons, and a job with both sprinkler and alarm systems starts at $1,000.
  • Both base fees only cover two and one-half hours. Anything beyond that (inspection time or plan review time) is billed at $100/hour, and the base fee only covers one building up to 50,000 sq ft.
  • SUPERSEDED-SOURCE WARNING: the Town's 'Fire Permits, Fees & Inspections' page still links a 'General Fire Prevention Fees' PDF whose internal PDF creation date is September 14, 2010. Its figures do NOT all match the currently adopted schedule — for example, the 2010 document prices the Medium Risk operating permit at '$75.00; paid in annual installments of $37.50', while the adopted Development Services Fee Schedule effective 4/1/2026 prices the same line at '$75; paid biennially'.   • For tenant improvements only, adding or relocating 3 sprinkler heads or fewer requires no submittal at all. Above that threshold the full submittal and fee structure applies.
  • Plans must be certified by a NICET Level III (or higher) certified engineering technician or an Arizona Registered Professional Engineer — and the Town explicitly notes this does not substitute for the Arizona Board of Technical Registration's own seal requirements.
