Sign Permit in Nederland, Colorado
The Town of Nederland's Municipal Code requires all signs posted within Town limits to be approved and permitted, with a few exceptions, per Municipal Code Chapter 18, Article V. An approved sign permit must be obtained before a sign may be erected, modified, or relocated. Newly constructed or illuminated signs (or replacements that change the foundation/support/attachment structure or an illuminated component) additionally require a building and/or electrical permit, combined into one additional permit.

When you need this permit
- An approved sign permit must be obtained before a sign may be erected, modified, or relocated
- A building (structural) permit is additionally required for newly constructed signs, and for replacement signs where the foundation, support, or attachment structure has changed
- A building permit for electrical work is additionally required for newly constructed illuminated signs, and for replacement signs where an illuminated component has been added or changed
- Permits for signs requiring both a building and electrical component are combined into one additional permit
- All signs require a post-installation zoning inspection for compliance with the permit application, scheduled with the Town Administrator or Deputy Zoning Administrator
- Signs requiring a building and/or electrical permit additionally require the relevant SAFEbuilt post-installation inspection
- If the proposed sign does not comply with Municipal Code parameters, the applicant may apply to the Board of Zoning Adjustment for a sign code variance, per N.M.C. Sec. 18-86 & 18-87

Tips
- A sign permit alone often isn't enough — newly constructed or illuminated signs (or structural/electrical replacements) also need a separate SAFEbuilt-reviewed building/electrical permit, combined into one additional permit per the Town's own Sign Permit Information Sheet.
- Every sign gets a post-installation zoning inspection regardless of whether a building/electrical permit was also required — budget time for that follow-up step even on a simple sign swap.
