Tips
- Sterling's sign fee is valuation-based on the same formula used for its building and mechanical permits — get a materials/installation cost estimate ready before applying so the correct tier fee can be calculated.
- A fairly long list of small/temporary signs (real estate up to 16 sq ft, construction signs up to 32 sq ft, directional signs up to 5 sq ft, political signs, window signs, and more) are exempt from the permit entirely under Sec. 1005.2 — check that list before assuming a permit is required.
- Anyone erecting, altering, or maintaining a permitted sign must hold a valid Sterling contractor's license (Sec. 1005.6, cross-referencing Municipal Code Ch. 9, Art. II) in addition to the sign permit itself. Contractor
