When you need this permit
- Building permit required for new single-family and two-family dwelling construction within Quartzsite town limits (exempt only if 120 sq ft or less and otherwise exempted under Chapter 150)
- Plans must comply with the 2018 IRC (Appendices G, H, P, Q) as adopted by the Town, plus the Chapter 150 uniform amendments (§ 150.03): jurisdiction name insertion, Fire Code cross-reference, Building Safety Division as enforcement agency, Flood Damage Prevention ordinance cross-reference for flood hazard areas/design flood elevations
- Submittal via the Town's iWorq Citizen Portal (quartzsite.portal.iworq.net/portalhome/quartzsite) — no separate paper/PDF application form is published outside the portal
- Building Safety Division reviews submitted documents prior to determining the building permit fee, which may take up to 24 hours to calculate, per the Development Procedures Handbook (Ord. 23-05)
- Building plans are reviewed by Town Staff or referred to a third-party plan review consultant if necessary; a separate agreement between the applicant and the third-party consultant is required in that case
- Building Permit Fee is calculated dynamically through iWorq per Table 1-A of the currently adopted International Building Code (ICC Building Valuation Data updated annually per Resolution 19-15) — no static town-published dollar table exists
- Work commencing before permit issuance triggers an investigation fee (minimum $50.00, maximum up to the Table 1-A permit fee amount) in addition to the permit fee, per § 150.03(B)(6)

Tips
- The Town of Quartzsite publishes no numeric review-timeframe (business/calendar/working days) for the Building Permit application/plan-review process. Town Code § 150.02 is silent on timing, as is § 150.03 (the uniform Chapter 150 amendments); the Development Procedures Handbook (Ord. 23-05, Article II Section 2) states only that fee determination 'may take up to 24 hours' and that plans are reviewed by Town Staff or a third-party consultant 'if necessary' — no day-count is given for that review itself; the Schedule of Fees - Rates (2024) PDF contains no timeframe language; and the iWorq Citizen Portal's own Building Permit Application landing page states only 'submit the application and wait for the City to contact you.' A.R.S. § 9-835 requires municipalities to publish their own administrative-completeness and substantive-review time frames but supplies no statutory default figure when a municipality has not done so; § 9-835(O) merely exempts sub-7-working-day licenses from the full dual-timeframe posting requirement and is not itself an issuance deadline. No separate enacted Arizona statute mandates a fixed single-family-dwelling permit-issuance deadline — a purported 'single-family 7-day' provision circulates only in secondary web summaries and does not appear in the actual enacted text of A.R.S. Title 9 §§ 831-843. Applicants should contact the Building Safety Division directly (928-927-4333 ext. 601) for a current informal processing estimate.
- Because Quartzsite is a small, seasonal RV/gem-show town, actual in-practice turnaround may vary significantly with the Town's winter (October-March) tourist-season staffing and application volume versus its quieter summer months — this seasonal variation is not itself published or quantified anywhere in Town materials.
- The 120-sq-ft permit-exemption threshold (§ 150.02) is lower than many jurisdictions use, so verify carefully before assuming a larger accessory structure is exempt here.
- All permit types (Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical) are submitted through the single iWorq Citizen Portal 'Building Permit Application' — there is no separate portal workflow per trade beyond selecting scope within the application itself.
