When you need this permit
- A demolition permit is required to demolish any building over 200 square feet; or one story in height; or any building with plumbing fixtures, per the City of Winnemucca 'Demolition Permit' handout
- A completion (surety) bond must be posted before beginning demolition, in the amount of $0.50 per square foot of the building to be demolished or $500.00, whichever is greater
- Before demolishing any non-residential structure containing plumbing fixtures, an inspection must be scheduled so the number of plumbing fixtures can be counted and recorded; a sewer/water connection fee credit will be applied to a new structure built on the same property if the new permit is obtained within five years of the sewer/water fixture demolition and the number of removed plumbing connections is on record
- The sewer line must be exposed at the property line, cut and plugged, and inspected/approved by the Building Department before it may be covered
- A final inspection must be requested upon completion of the demolition; before scheduling the final inspection, all concrete and debris must be removed from the lot, all holes and depressions filled in, and the lot rough-graded
- A Demolition Permit Supplement form must be completed, specifying the address, owner, contractor, number of each type of plumbing fixture, type of structure, type of construction, number of stories, and total floor area (used to calculate the bond value at $0.50/sq ft)

Tips
- No demolition-permit-specific review timeline is published by the City of Winnemucca; the 'Demolition Permit' handout describes bonding, inspection, and final-inspection requirements but states no plan-review turnaround figure. Confirm current turnaround directly with the Building Department at (775) 623-6319.
- If you plan to rebuild on the same lot, obtain the new building permit within five years of the demolition's sewer/water fixture removal to preserve the connection-fee credit — the credit depends on the plumbing fixture count being on record from the pre-demolition inspection.
- Do not cover the exposed, cut, and plugged sewer line at the property line until the Building Department has inspected and approved it.
