When you need this permit

  • A sign permit is required for all signs exceeding six (6) square feet in area, per DMC Sec. 17.68.030, unless specifically exempted under Sec. 17.68.040

  • Roof signs are allowed in all commercial districts, but no part of a sign attached to or within six feet of a building may rise higher than the building's ridgeline or parapet
  • Site Plan and Diagrams of Signs (with dimensions) must be attached to the Sign Permit Application
  • Applicant must acknowledge having read DMC Chapter 17.68 and, if the property abuts a state highway, must also comply with CDOT's Rules Governing Outdoor Advertising (2 CCR 601-3)
  • Permit becomes null and void if work is not commenced within 180 days of issuance, or is suspended/abandoned for 180 consecutive days thereafter — same standard 180-day rule used across Delta's other permit types
  • The Building Department's general review-timeline sentence explicitly places 'signs' (alongside single-family homes, solar, and commercial) in its 'may take longer' bucket, distinct from the ~1-day-minimum simple-permit bucket (electrical, re-roofs, mechanical)
