Sign Permit in Parker, Colorado
Chapter 13.09 (Sign Code) of the Town's Land Development Ordinance requires a Sign Permit for construction or installation of most permanent signs in the Town of Parker, per LDO Sec. 13.09.020(f)(1). Applications are reviewed by the Community Development Department under the administrative procedures set out in LDO Sec. 13.03.040(o), Sign permit or temporary sign registration. Temporary signs use a separate registration process rather than a permit.

When you need this permit
- A Sign Permit is required for construction or installation of all permanent signs allowed under Chapter 13.09, unless otherwise exempted; a new Sign Permit is also required for any change to a sign's location, size, shape, or other characteristic (except its message), per LDO Sec. 13.09.020(f)(1)
- Temporary signs must instead be registered with the Community Development Department prior to display (an electronic registry, not a permit); registration is not required between October 1 and November 15 each calendar year, per LDO Sec. 13.03.040(o)(2)a
- Exemptions from Sign Permit/registration include signs smaller than 2 sq ft on a residential parcel, window signs under 6 sq ft, signs not legible from any right-of-way or adjacent property, on-premises athletic field/scoreboard signs, and other categories listed in LDO Sec. 13.09.020(c)
- Because of the potential hazard to the public from poorly constructed or installed signs, all permanent signs are inspected by the Building Division, per LDO Sec. 13.03.040(o)(2)b
- Sign construction, erection, safety, and maintenance must comply with all Town building regulations, including Building Permit requirements where necessary; electric signs and permanent signs involving structural requirements of the building code may be installed, repaired, altered, or serviced only by a licensed contractor, per LDO Sec. 13.09.030(c)(1) Contractor
- A general LDO provision (13.03.040(o)(2)c) requires a decision within 60 days only where federal or state law mandates a decision within a stated period — this is a narrow trigger, not a general Sign Permit turnaround guarantee

Tips
- Modifying an existing sign's location, size, or shape triggers a NEW Sign Permit under LDO Sec. 13.09.020(f)(1) — only a message change (e.g., swapping a panel in a multi-tenant monument sign) is exempt from re-permitting.
- Temporary signs (banners, sandwich boards, temporary freestanding signs) go through Registration, not a Sign Permit, and registration is waived entirely between October 1 and November 15 each year — but the signs must still meet all Chapter 13.09 dimensional and duration standards.
- Electric signs and any sign involving the building code's structural requirements must be installed, repaired, altered, or serviced by a licensed contractor — confirm your sign contractor holds the Town's required registration before applying. Contractor
