- GOVERNING FIGURE (corrected 2026-07-23): per the Town's codified Municipal Code §18.02.040, work must commence within 60 days of permit issuance or the permit expires/is cancelled by the Town, and must be substantially completed within 2 years of issuance or it likewise expires. The Town's own Building Permit Application (page 2 Notice section, PDF 'Updated: 2022') separately states a conflicting 180-day commencement/work-stoppage figure ('In the event construction is not commenced within 180 days of issuance of this permit, then the same is automatically void. Cessation of work for a period of 180 continuous days shall also cause this permit to be void.'); the codified ordinance governs, but applicants should be aware the form itself prints the longer 180-day figure. Permits are not transferable.

The full 'Total Valuation / Building Permit Fee' table is transcribed verbatim from Resolution No. 2024-12-16H, Exhibit A 'Town of Mountain View Fee Schedule' (Chapter 18 - Building Regulations, 'Building Permit Fees Set By Resolution' table, updated 12/12/2024; published at tomv.org/media/2046). This is the Town's single, universal valuation-based Building Permit Fee schedule (no separate commercial/residential columns); it governs the Application's 'Permit Fee $___' line for every permit type. The table lives in the Council resolution archive rather than on the Building Department's public-facing webpages. The Town's Building Department FAQ page states 'Use Tax = total valuation x 50 percent x 4 percent' (verbatim). The Town's Building Department FAQ page states 'Use Tax = total valuation x 50 percent x 4 percent' (verbatim). The Town's Use Tax Guidelines PDF (tomv.org/media/26, 'Last Updated 2022') separately states 3% with a $1,500-on-$100,000 worked example; the current, actively-maintained tomv.org FAQ page is treated as governing over the older, undated-update PDF (see tipsAndGotchas regarding the Town's similarly conflicting legacy review-timeline page). E.g. $100,000 valuation = $50,000 assumed materials x 4% = $2,000 use tax due at permit issuance.Review timeline
