Tips

  • Type A Permit applications (new construction, additions, garages) must be submitted at least three weeks before the first-Tuesday-of-the-month Planning & Zoning Commission meeting — missing that window pushes the project to the following month's meeting.
  • All submittals must be electronic (emailed to info@townofblueriver.org) — this is the opposite of Summit County's own building department, which requires in-person hardcopy submittal for Dillon/Silverthorne permits. Do not attempt a hardcopy drop-off in Blue River.
  • Schedule inspections by 4:00 p.m. the day before (Tuesdays/Thursdays only, per the Building Inspections page) or by Thursday 4:00 p.m. for a Monday inspection; requests received Friday roll to the following Tuesday.
  • Confirm the currently-enforced code edition directly with the Building Official at submittal — the Town's own live pages disagree (Type A Permits page cites 2024 IRC/IECC/IEC + 2020 IFC; the Building FAQ page still says '2018 Code'; the codified Chapter 18 ordinance itself references even older 2012/2017 editions).

Only narrowly: the Final Building Inspection requires sign-off from the Summit County Health Department for septic systems (or Upper Blue Sanitation District for sewer connections).
