EV Charger / EVSE Permit in Fruitland, Idaho
Required for installation of a residential or commercial electric vehicle charging station (EVSE) in Fruitland. As with all electrical work in this jurisdiction (see solar-pv-permit and mechanical-permit entries), the City of Fruitland does not administer electrical permits at all — a standalone EVSE circuit is a state-issued permit from the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL) Electrical Bureau, billed under DOPL's 'Other Installation' catch-all fee schedule since no EV/solar-specific line item exists in the rule. No separate City of Fruitland permit is required for an EVSE circuit alone (unlike solar PV, which also has a City structural/racking permit component) unless the installation is bundled with new construction, an addition, or a panel/service scope the City otherwise regulates.

When you need this permit
- State electrical permit purchased through DOPL's online permit system, billed under the 'Other Installation' fee schedule (IDAPA 24.39.10, Section 0206) since no EV-charger-specific line item exists
- Installer must hold a valid Idaho electrical contractor license (a general electrical contractor license is sufficient; no EV-specific license classification exists), per IDAPA 24.39.10 Section 09 Contractor
- Idaho Code Chapter 22 of Title 55 requires calling 811 not less than 2 nor more than 10 business days before any excavation, relevant if trenching is needed to reach a detached garage or carport charging location
- If the EVSE installation is bundled with new construction, an addition, or requires a City-regulated panel/service scope, confirm with the City of Fruitland Building Department (208-452-4946) whether an additional City permit applies

Tips
- Fruitland does not administer electrical permits — an EV charger circuit is a State of Idaho permit issued directly by DOPL, not a City of Fruitland permit, unlike solar PV which also requires a separate City structural/racking permit.
- There is no EV-specific electrical contractor license in Idaho — any licensed Idaho electrical contractor can perform the installation. Contractor
- If the EVSE circuit is installed as part of new construction or an addition the City is otherwise permitting, confirm with the City Building Department whether the electrical scope still routes through DOPL separately or is coordinated as part of the City's plan review.
