A building permit is required for the construction, repair, or enclosure of a patio cover or carport in Peoria. Plans are submitted online at devservices.peoriaaz.gov with a completed 400M – Miscellaneous Building Permit Application and a site plan. A footing inspection and a final inspection must both be passed. Patio covers are limited to one-story not exceeding 12 feet in height and used only for recreational/outdoor living purposes. Carports must be one-story and open on two or more sides (except structural supports).

- Submit online at devservices.peoriaaz.gov with a completed 400M – Miscellaneous Building Permit Application and site plan
- Site plan must show location of patio cover relative to property lines, easements, existing structures, and driveway width and slope
- Patio covers: one-story maximum, 12-foot maximum height, recreational and outdoor living use only
- Carports: one-story, open on two or more sides except structural supports; any enclosed use above = must comply with garage regulations
- If patio cover posts are within 3 feet of a property line (for attached residences only where zoning allows): one-hour fire-resistive wall and parapet on the property line is required, with no openings. Exception: no wall required on the side next to a street or alley
- Work must comply with 2018 IBC, IRC, and current Peoria Zoning Ordinances per Ordinance 2019-12
