Fire Sprinkler / Fire Alarm System Permit in Superior, Colorado
Fire protection is provided to the Town of Superior by Mountain View Fire Rescue (Mountain View Fire Protection District, 'MVFR'/'MVFPD'), a special district separate from Town government, per MVFR's own website: 'MVFR serves approximately 250 square miles including Boulder, Dacono, Erie, Mead, Niwot, Superior and unincorporated areas of Boulder and Weld counties.' (Rocky Mountain Fire District merged into MVFR effective January 1, 2021.) MVFPD's Life Safety Division reviews and permits fire protection and life-safety system installations/modifications, including fire alarm systems, automatic fire extinguishing (sprinkler) systems, and standpipe systems, per its Board-adopted Fee Schedule (September 2023).

When you need this permit
- Mountain View Fire Rescue's Life Safety Division reviews installation and/or modification plans for fire protection and life-safety systems, including fire alarm systems, automatic fire extinguishing systems, and standpipe systems, per MVFPD's Fee Schedule
- An application for plan review must include the total value of the proposed scope of work (materials and labor); if the fire code official finds the valuation underestimated, approval is denied unless detailed written estimates support the stated valuation — final valuation is set by the fire code official, per the Fee Schedule
- Fees must be paid before the permit is issued; work completed without a permit is charged a 50% premium over the normal fee, per the Fee Schedule
- Plans may be submitted electronically to plans@mvfpd.org, per MVFR's Plans & Permits page; online payment for plan review services is accepted
- A separate Town-issued building permit component may also apply for the associated construction work, administered by the Town's Planning & Building Department (operated by SAFEbuilt) under its own valuation-based Building Permit Fee table

Tips
- Two separate fee tracks apply to a fire sprinkler/alarm install in Superior: MVFPD's own Life Safety Division fee (2.5% of project valuation, $110 minimum) for the fire-system plan review/permit/inspection, AND a Town of Superior building permit fee (valuation-based table) plus a 65%-of-permit-fee plan review fee for the associated construction permit — budget for both.
- MVFPD explicitly charges a 50% premium over the normal fee for fire protection system work completed without a permit — get the permit before starting work.
- Repeated false fire-alarm activations from equipment/system malfunction (more than 3 per location, or more than 10 responses/inspections in a calendar year) trigger a separate $150-per-alarm inspection charge distinct from the installation permit fee.
