Roofing Permit (Re-Roof) in Crested Butte, Colorado
Required for re-roofing work in Crested Butte, reviewed under the 2024 IBC/IRC as adopted, with mandatory ice barrier underlayment per Table R301.2. If the parcel falls within a mapped Class 1/Class 2 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code fire hazard area and the re-roof replaces more than 25% of the existing roof covering, the entire roof must meet CWRC Class A roof-covering and valley-flashing requirements. BOZAR/historic design review applies to visible roofing material changes given the Town's historic district status.

Tips
- Confirm whether your specific parcel falls in a mapped Class 1 or Class 2 CWRC fire hazard zone via the State Wildfire Resiliency Map Viewer before assuming Class A roofing is (or isn't) required — this is genuinely a mapped-zone trigger in Crested Butte, unlike some peer mountain towns that apply wildfire roofing rules town-wide.
- Slate and concrete roof tile are currently NOT allowed anywhere in Town per the Design Standards and Guidelines — don't assume a premium tile product will pass BOZAR/Building review even outside a mapped wildfire zone.
- Because Crested Butte's core is a historic district, even a like-for-like re-roof in a matching material may still need BOZAR/DRC sign-off for visible changes — confirm before assuming a routine swap skips design review.
