Tips
- The City's published Residential Building Permit Process guide sets a 10-working-day administrative completeness review followed by a 10-working-day 1st substantive review (20 working days combined for the two published stages); this is a process-guide figure rather than an A.R.S. § 9-835 statutory determination, but it is the City's own cited number.
- As of July 15, 2025, Development Services combines Site Plan review and Building Plan Check into one concurrent process — previously these ran sequentially and could combine for 5-7 months; the City states some projects can now receive permits within just one or two review rounds.
- IRC Section R313 (mandatory residential fire sprinklers) is deleted by City amendment — Kingman does NOT require automatic sprinklers in new one- and two-family dwellings, unlike some other Arizona cities that cross-reference the Fire Code instead.
- Swimming pools/spas/hot tubs (18+ inches deep and wider than 8 feet at any point), detached garages, accessory structures 200+ sq ft, fences/decks over 30 inches high, and manufactured/factory-built homes all separately route through the same residential building permit process per the City's process guide.
- The Building Division is actively transitioning to the SmartGov online portal (beginning April 15, 2026); during the transition period, confirm with buildingadmin@cityofkingman.gov whether a given submittal should go through legacy channels or the new portal.
