Building Permit (New Construction, Addition, Alteration, Repair) in Yuma, Colorado
City of Yuma issues a single general-purpose Building Permit Application covering new construction, additions, alterations, and repairs to residential structures, selected via a 'Class of Work' checkbox (New / Addition / Alteration / Repair / Move / Remove / Demolition) on one shared form. Reviewed under the 2015 IBC/IRC as adopted. No separate application exists per project type.

- Provide owner name/address, contractor name and license number (where applicable to the trade), type of construction, occupancy group/division, zone, fire zone, zoning, and total estimated cost of project
- Attach a sketch of the project if applicable (sketch-attached checkbox on the form)
- Plans filed as required for the scope of work; the Building Inspector determines plan submittal requirements case by case (no separate published plan-submittal checklist was found distinct from the application form itself)

- Work must be commenced within 6 months of permit issuance or the permit becomes invalid; work suspended or abandoned for 1 year likewise invalidates the permit

Tips
- Yuma uses ONE Building Permit Application form for new construction, additions, alterations, repairs, moves, removals, and demolitions — select the correct 'Class of Work' checkbox rather than looking for a separate form per project type.
- The City's fee schedule (2024) supersedes the older Uniform-Building-Code-era rate language pre-printed on the paper application form — use the current $100 minimum / $2.00-per-$1,000-above-$500 formula from Resolution #46, not the legacy form text.
- Contractor license number is requested on the form but the City's Roofing/Siding/Window guidance states no contractor license is required for those specific trades — confirm with the Building Inspector (970-630-7118) whether your specific scope of work requires a licensed contractor. Contractor
