Inspection sequence

Applies to: Residential Building Permit

  1. 1

    Building, Electrical, Mechanical & Plumbing

    Combined trade inspection line administered by the Building Inspection Division, per the official Certificate of Occupancy Requirements form (Doc 15706). Scheduled via eProcess 360 (permits starting with 'E') or the legacy Munis phone line (801-270-2431, option 1) per Murray's Inspection Scheduling Changes notice.

    Engineering & SWPP

    Required sign-off for any work performed in the public way (driveways, curb and gutter, drainage systems, public sidewalks) per the Certificate of Occupancy Requirements form. Contact: (801) 270-2454.

    Fire

    Fire Department sign-off required before Certificate of Occupancy issuance. Contact: (801) 264-2776.

    Planning/Zoning

    Planning/Zoning sign-off required before Certificate of Occupancy issuance. Contact: (801) 270-2426.

    Final / Certificate of Occupancy

    Certificate of Occupancy or Temporary Certificate of Occupancy issued 5 to 10 working days after the General Contractor of record submits the completed Requirements form. Per the form: 'A Certificate of Occupancy or Temporary Certificate of Occupancy will be issued 5 to 10 working days.'

    Fire Sprinkler Above the Grid and Bracing Inspection

    Per the Fire and Life Safety Fee Schedule.

    Fire Sprinkler Final Inspection

    Per the Fire and Life Safety Fee Schedule; required before off-site monitoring and building final sign-off.

Applies to: Commercial Tenant Improvement / Tenant Finish Permit

    Framing / Fire-Rated Assembly

    Wall construction and any fire-rated/occupancy separation assemblies verified before close-in, per the Commercial Tenant Improvement checklist.

    MEP Rough-In

    Electrical (lighting, fire alarm/smoke detectors), mechanical (exhaust fans, fire/smoke dampers), and plumbing (fixture locations) rough-in verified against the submitted plans.

    Final

    Exit signage, emergency lighting, and all finishes verified complete before occupancy.

Applies to: Change of Occupancy / Change of Use Permit

    Building Inspection Division Review

    The Building Inspection Division reviews and comments on the architect's hazard analysis and upgrade plan before permits are issued for the identified work; additional issues may need to be addressed after review, per Murray's official 'Change of Occupancy' policy.

    Final / Certificate of Occupancy

    A Certificate of Occupancy or Temporary Certificate of Occupancy is issued once all sign-offs (Building/Electrical/Mechanical/Plumbing, Engineering & SWPP, Fire, Planning/Zoning) are complete, per Murray's Requirements For A Certificate Of Occupancy form — required before the new use may occupy the space, per IBC 2021 Section 111.

    Framing

    Wall framing and fire blocking inspection, part of the combined Building/Electrical/Mechanical/Plumbing inspection line (801-270-2431) per the Certificate of Occupancy Requirements form.

    Final / Certificate of Occupancy

    Certificate of Occupancy or Temporary CO issued 5 to 10 working days after the General Contractor of record submits the completed sign-off form, per Murray's official CO Requirements form.

Applies to: Solar Panel (PV) Permit

    Final Inspection

    Once solar system installation is complete, contact the Murray City Building Inspection Division at (801) 270-2431 to schedule an inspection, per the Murray City Power Net Metering Checklist.

  2. 2

    Net Meter Installation

    After final inspection passes, contact Murray City Power's Metering Supervisor (Victor Meza, 801-264-2724) to test the new system and install the net and production meters. Customer may not connect panels to Murray's system until the new net meter is installed — connecting early causes excess generation to register as consumption rather than credit, per the Net Metering Checklist.
