    Final Inspection

    Once solar system installation is complete, contact the Murray City Building Inspection Division at (801) 270-2431 to schedule an inspection, per the Murray City Power Net Metering Checklist.

    Net Meter Installation

    After final inspection passes, contact Murray City Power's Metering Supervisor (Victor Meza, 801-264-2724) to test the new system and install the net and production meters. Customer may not connect panels to Murray's system until the new net meter is installed — connecting early causes excess generation to register as consumption rather than credit, per the Net Metering Checklist.

Tips

  • Murray City Power requires a production/generation meter in addition to the net (bidirectional) meter; Murray City Power covers the cost of the production meter itself, but the customer pays the $250 (residential) or $350 (commercial) net meter fee.
  • A separate, manually-operated safety disconnect switch (with visibly open/closed contacts) must be installed between the inverter and the production meter, within several feet of the net meter — meter-base circuit breakers or inverter-integrated disconnects do NOT satisfy this requirement, per Murray City Power's diagram (rev. March 2017).
  • System output is capped at 10 kW maximum on Murray's residential solar checklist.
  • All PV system components (main meter, production meter, AC disconnect, module array, inverter) must be grouped within a 6-foot maximum span, per Murray's Site Plan checklist requirement.
  • Do not energize/connect panels before Murray City Power installs the new net meter — early connection causes generated kWh to register as consumption, resulting in extra cost rather than credit.
