Residential Building Permit in West Bountiful, Utah
Required for new single-family residential construction, additions, remodels, and other structural work regulated by the Utah-adopted IRC/IBC. West Bountiful calculates the permit fee from project valuation (contractor-provided or computed from the City's own square-footage valuation chart) applied to a 1997 UBC-style fee formula table. Plan review and inspections are performed by Sunrise Engineering under contract to the City; the City itself issues the permit and collects all fees.

Tips
- West Bountiful contracts building code plan review and inspections to Sunrise Engineering, but the City itself issues permits, sets fees, and administers the application/submittal process — this is not a case of a neighboring city absorbing West Bountiful's permitting function.
- Schedule all inspections directly with Sunrise Engineering at 800-560-6151, at least 24 hours in advance, with the permit number, site address, and inspection type ready.
- A permit is null and void if work does not begin within 180 days of issuance, is suspended/abandoned for 180 days, or if 180 days pass since the last inspection; written extension requests with good cause may be considered by the building official before expiration.
- A refundable $2,400 public improvement/construction bond applies to any new structure requiring heavy equipment to cross curb, gutter, or sidewalk; release is requested at (801) 292-4486 after final inspection and Public Works approval of curb/sidewalk condition.
- Deposit amounts vary by project type: $1,000 for new home/commercial construction, $100 for accessory structures/solar/pools, $300 for commercial tenant improvements, $75 for signs, and $25 for fencing/landscape plan review.
