Sign Permit in Taylor, Arizona
The Town of Taylor issues sign permits through its Planning & Zoning Department, which publishes a dedicated one-page Sign Permit Application form. Sign standards are set by Taylor Town Code (TTC) Section 18.60.120, 'Signs'; billboards are separately regulated under TTC Section 18.60.121 and require their own billboard permit issued by the Zoning Administrator. The Sign Permit Application collects Class of Work (New, Addition, Alteration), Permit Type (Sign / Sign Package), Type of Sign (Directional, Free Standing, Wall Mounted, Flag Pole, Illuminated, Other), the height of the sign, the number of faces, the total square feet of sign, and whether electric service is existing or new. TTC Section 18.60.120(A)(5)(k) states that no sign permit is required for political signs, and Section 18.60.120(A) lists the other signs permitted in all zones without counting toward sign limitations.

- COM and IND zoning districts, detached signs: limited to one sign per street frontage, 1 square foot of sign area for every 1 foot of lot frontage, maximum 150 square feet; maximum height for a detached sign in the COM zone is 30 feet (TTC 18.60.120(B)(3)(c))

Inspection process
- 1
Final inspection on completion (billboards only, as published)
TTC 18.60.121(G)(7) requires any person installing, structurally altering or relocating a billboard for which a permit has been issued to notify the Zoning Administrator on completion; the administrator then inspects within 7 working days and affixes a permanent symbol identifying the billboard and permit. No equivalent inspection step is published in TTC 18.60.120 for other signs — confirm the inspection sequence for a standard sign with the Building/Zoning Department at 928-536-7366.

Tips
- The Sign Permit Application lives on the Planning & Zoning page, not the Building Department page. It is a separate form from the Town's general Building Permit Application.
- Sign area in COM and IND zones is driven by frontage, not by a flat cap: 2 square feet of attached-sign area per 1 foot of building frontage and 1 square foot of detached-sign area per 1 foot of lot frontage, each capped at 150 square feet and at one sign per street frontage.
- Multi-tenant buildings share the frontage allowance. Sign area may be divided between more than one tenant in a common building, but the cumulative signs may not exceed the same limit.
- If your sign program does not fit the standard rules, ask about a comprehensive sign package for commercial and industrial uses — the Town may approve differing standards and sign types subject to site plan review.
- Billboards are a different permit with a different code section, its own application content list (including a boundary and sign survey and engineer certifications), and its own lapse rules — a billboard permit lapses if the billboard is abandoned, if the permittee's business license lapses or is revoked, or if use is discontinued for 180 days or more.
- CONFIRMED GAP: no sign permit fee is published anywhere. Both pages of the current 2025 fee schedule and the older P & Z fee schedule were read in full. Call 928-536-7366 before budgeting.
- The Town Code moved hosts. In a real browser the legacy codepublishing.com Taylor URLs now resolve to ecode360.com (Chapter 15.05 is ecode360.com/49809356, Chapter 18.60 is ecode360.com/49810744); command-line clients receive a Cloudflare 403 from codepublishing.com.
