Fire Alarm System Permit in North Las Vegas, Nevada

A fire permit is required for the installation of any fire alarm system in the City of North Las Vegas per the 2024 International Fire Code (IFC). The permit is reviewed by North Las Vegas Fire Prevention (part of the Division of Building and Fire Safety) against NFPA 72, 2022 edition, and the North Las Vegas Fire Code (NLV MC Chapter 15.92). This is a separate construction permit from the Fire Sprinkler System Permit, with its own submittal guideline, general-notes form, and inspection sequence.

  • Fire permit required for installation of any fire alarm system per the 2024 IFC
  • Plans must indicate: Fire Alarm System General Notes (filled out), detailed scope of work, room use identification, alarm devices with candela ratings, notification devices, control equipment, mounting equipment and height detail, riser diagram, sequence-of-operation matrix, battery capacity/safety margin calculations, voltage-drop calculations, and a Life Safety Report if applicable
  • Manufacturer's specification sheets required for all components installed
  • Design and installation must meet the 2024 IBC, 2024 IFC, 2022 NFPA 72, and Nevada State Fire Marshal regulations, with occupancy classification(s)/load(s) and fire alarm circuit classification (Power Limited or Non-Power Limited) identified on the plans
  • Contractor (or designee) must provide testing equipment and perform all testing required by NLV Fire Prevention
  • A rough electrical inspection by NLV Building Safety, and a separate rough fire alarm inspection of all device/box locations and wiring by NLV Fire Prevention, are both required before concealment behind sheetrock
  • Installing contractor must "pretest" the entire system before scheduling the final inspection, with a written pretest record provided
  • A two-part 24-hour battery test is required: AC power disconnection, then a second check at least 24 hours later during which all indicating devices are activated for at least 5 minutes (15 minutes for voice communications)
  • Record of completion and a copy of the maintenance agreement must be uploaded to the permit via the Citizen Self Service (CSS) Portal before the final inspection is completed
  • A framed or laminated readable 11x17 floor plan must be mounted securely adjacent to the control panel and all annunciators
  • Submit the Fire Protection Application and required documents through the Permit Application Center

Tips

  • Fire alarm systems require two separate rough inspections — one electrical (NLV Building Safety) and one fire alarm-specific (NLV Fire Prevention) — both before wiring is concealed.
  • Upload the maintenance agreement and record of completion via the CSS Portal before scheduling the fire alarm final — Fire Prevention will not complete the final inspection without it.
