Required for the erection, installation, repair, or relocation of most permanent and temporary signs in the City of North Las Vegas, per NLV Municipal Code Title 17 §17.24.150 (Signs). When you need this permit

  • A sign may not be erected, installed, repaired, or moved without a permit from the Building Department, except signs exempt under NLV MC §17.24.150.B.1: construction signs, real estate signs up to 32 sq ft, political signs, holiday/special-event decorations (removed within 10 days of the event), nameplates of 2 sq ft or less, and maintenance of a manual or automatic changeable-copy sign
  • All sign locations for signs requiring a permit must be approved in conjunction with an approved site plan or unified sign plan (NLV MC §17.24.150.B.2)
  • Off-premise signs require written, notarized authorization from the property owner (with deed) attached to the application, and carry a flat $500.00 permit fee (per the NLV Sign Permit Application form)
  • A copy of the signed contract must be submitted with the application; sign valuation is based on the contract price, inclusive of material, labor, and manufacturer's costs
  • Contractor must be licensed under NRS 624.240 and hold a City of North Las Vegas business license Contractor
  • Freestanding sign area, height, spacing, and setback are governed by Table 17.24.150-1 and Table 17.24.150-2, which vary by zoning district and (for commercial) tenant floor area
  • Businesses in a shopping/business center that combine frontage for sign-area purposes must have a Unified Sign Plan administratively approved by the Community Development Department before individual tenant sign permits are submitted
