Fire Sprinkler System Permit in North Las Vegas, Nevada

A construction permit is required for the installation, modification, or retrofit of any automatic fire sprinkler system in the City of North Las Vegas, per 2024 International Fire Code (IFC) §105.6.1. The permit is reviewed by North Las Vegas Fire Prevention (part of the Division of Building and Fire Safety) against NFPA 13 (2022 edition) and NFPA 25 (2023 edition), plus the North Las Vegas Fire Code (NLV MC Chapter 15.92). This is a separate construction permit from the automatic residential fire sprinkler requirement built into new single-family building permits (Ord. 3256, effective January 5, 2026) — that citywide mandate is documented under the Residential Building Permit entry; this permit type is the sprinkler-system installation permit itself.

When you need this permit

  • Construction permit required for installation of any sprinkler system per 2024 IFC §105.6.1
  • Plans must include all information required by NFPA 13, 2022 edition, §28.1.3 (items 1 through 23), and a system hydraulic calculation report per NFPA 13 §28.2
  • Plans must be reviewed and signed by a NICET Level 2 designer in water-based fire protection systems, with the designer's name, certificate number, and signature indicated
  • City of North Las Vegas Fire Sprinkler General Notes form (commercial or residential version) must be filled out and included on the plans, identifying the applicable NFPA standards (NFPA 13, 13R, 14, 20, 24, etc.), building use/hazard classification, and water-flow test data
  • Manufacturer's specification sheets required for all system components
  • All portions of the automatic sprinkler system must be installed, tested, and flushed by a company licensed by the Nevada State Fire Marshal's office
  • Hydrostatic testing and underground flushing must be witnessed by North Las Vegas Fire Prevention, which requires at least 24 hours' notice before any test or inspection
  • Fire sprinkler piping may not be concealed behind walls, sheetrock, or ceiling tiles until the rough and hydrostatic inspections are signed off by the fire inspector (IFC §108.4)
  • Submit the Fire Protection Application and required documents through the Permit Application Center

Tips

  • Fire sprinkler plans must be signed by a NICET Level 2 water-based fire protection designer, and the installing/testing company must be licensed by the Nevada State Fire Marshal's office. Contractor
  • Give North Las Vegas Fire Prevention at least 24 hours' notice before any hydrostatic test, flush, or inspection — piping concealed before signoff has to be exposed again for inspection.
  • The $100 minimum fire-protection plan review fee is waived for sprinkler systems in single-family residences and duplexes — the fee is then whatever the Table 3-A building-permit-fee calculation produces.
  • This permit is separate from the citywide automatic residential fire sprinkler mandate for new single-family homes (NLV Ord. 3256, effective January 5, 2026) — that requirement is folded into the Residential Building Permit, while this permit governs the sprinkler system installation itself.
