- All inspections should be scheduled through the City Inspect portal or by calling City Hall at (801) 776-0970 at least 24 hours in advance, per the official Basement Finish Checklist.
- Egress bedroom windows must have a net clear openable area of at least 5.7 sq. ft. with minimum 24" height and 20" width (minimums cannot be combined), and window wells must have a minimum 9 sq. ft. horizontal area with 36" minimum width/projection — window wells deeper than 44" require a permanently affixed ladder, per the Code for Finishing Basements document.
- GFCI receptacles are required in unfinished basement areas, bathrooms, kitchens, and for hydro-massage tubs and laundry/bar sink outlets, per the Code for Finishing Basements document.
- Carbon monoxide alarms are required outside each separate sleeping area in dwellings with fuel-fired appliances, interconnected with all other alarms.
