Tips

  • All inspections must be requested through the City Inspect portal or by calling City Hall at (801) 776-0970 at least 24 hours in advance; no same-day inspections are performed, per the official Inspection Types and Guidelines document.
  • All building permits must be paid in full before any inspection can be scheduled.
  • Inspections are scheduled Monday–Thursday 8:00 AM–3:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM–11:30 AM (call-in window), per the Inspection Types and Guidelines document — note this differs from the Building Department's general office hours.
  • Credit card payments through the City Inspect portal carry a 3% service fee, per the official Building Permit Procedures document.
  • Utah Code § 10-20-909(8) prohibits a municipality from enforcing a plan-review requirement (and requires refund of the plan review fee) if the municipality fails to complete plan review within the statutory 14-business-day window and a licensed architect or structural engineer has stamped the plans.
  • West Point has not published a distinct solar-PV permit type, fee, or checklist (checked 2026-07-19: Building Department page, FY2026 Fee Schedule, and a site search all reviewed). The Building Department page lists 'electrical work' among the categories requiring a permit under this same process, and solar photovoltaic installations would be submitted through the City Inspect portal with the fee based on valuation like other building permit work — no separate solar line item is itemized in the Fee Schedule.
  • EV charger (EVSE) installation is likewise treated as standard electrical work under this same permit — the city's official FY2026 Fee Schedule (effective July 1, 2025, live-fetched 2026-07-19) lists only a valuation/square-footage-based Building Permit Fee under SAFETY / INSPECTION FEES, with no separate electrical trade-permit line item and no EV-charger or electric-vehicle-charging line item anywhere in the document. Confirm project-specific requirements at (801) 776-0970.

West Point, Utah has adopted: 2024 International Building Code (IBC), including appendices C & J — CURRENT statewide as of 7/1/2026 per Utah Code § 15A-2-103(1)(a); supersedes the 2021 edition. West Point City's official New Home Design Criteria document (re-fetched live 2026-07-16, unchanged) still lists '2021 International Building Code, including appendices C & J' effective July 1, 2023, and has not been updated for the 7/1/2026 statewide transition — the statute controls over the lagging city document.; 2021 International Residential Code, including appendix AQ, except residential provisions of Chapter 11 (Energy Efficiency) — REMAINS CURRENT; Utah Code § 15A-2-103(1)(b)/(c) did NOT change this edition in the 7/1/2026 amendment. Consistent with West Point's own New Home Design Criteria document.; 2024 International Plumbing Code (IPC) — CURRENT statewide as of 7/1/2026 per Utah Code § 15A-2-103(1)(d); supersedes the 2021 edition. West Point's Design Criteria document (re-fetched live 2026-07-16) still lists '2021 International Fuel Gas Code' and has not been updated.; 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC) — CURRENT statewide per Utah Code § 15A-2-103(1)(g); UNCHANGED by the 7/1/2026 amendment (2023 has been the statewide NEC edition since before this cycle). West Point's Design Criteria document (re-fetched live 2026-07-16) lists '2020 National Electrical Code issued by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA),' which is NOT a valid statewide-adopted edition and has not been corrected by the City — the statute controls. Confirm the currently enforced NEC edition directly with the Building Department before relying on the City's own document for a live project.; 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), single unsplit statewide edition — CURRENT statewide as of 7/1/2026 per Utah Code § 15A-2-103(1)(h); COLLAPSES the residential/commercial split previously listed here into one edition, since § 15A-2-103 does not carry a residential/commercial IECC split. West Point's own Design Criteria document (re-fetched live 2026-07-16, unchanged) still splits '2015 International Energy Conservation Code (residential)' and '2021 International Energy Conservation Code (commercial)' — both stale editions, both now superseded by the single 2024 statewide edition; the prior residential/commercial split is preserved below as explicit history.; HISTORY (superseded by the single 2024 IECC entry above): West Point's Design Criteria document lists the residential IECC as the 2015 edition and the commercial IECC as the 2021 edition, both effective July 1, 2023 — this residential/commercial split reflected the pre-7/1/2026 code cycle and does not exist under the current statute, which adopts one unsplit IECC edition.; 2024 International Existing Building Code (IEBC) — CURRENT statewide as of 7/1/2026 per Utah Code § 15A-2-103(1)(i); supersedes the 2021 edition. West Point's Design Criteria document (re-fetched live 2026-07-16) still lists '2021 International Existing Building Code' and has not been updated.; Residential provisions of the 2024 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) — CURRENT statewide as of 7/1/2026 per Utah Code § 15A-2-103(1)(n); supersedes the 2021 edition. West Point's Design Criteria document (re-fetched live 2026-07-16) still lists '2021 International Swimming Pool & Spa' and has not been updated.; MBI 1200 and MBI 1205 (manufactured/modular construction standards) — statewide per Utah Code § 15A-2-103(1)(o); not itemized in West Point's Design Criteria document, added here per statute since the City's own materials omit it.; NOTE (2026-07-16 re-verification): Utah Code § 15A-2-103, version effective 7/1/2026 (superseded 1/1/2027), took effect 15 days before this re-verification. IBC/IPC/IMC/IFGC/IECC/IEBC/residential ISPSC are now 2024 statewide; IRC (2021) and NEC (2023) did NOT change. West Point's own New Home Design Criteria PDF was re-fetched live 2026-07-16 and is byte-identical in substance to what this file previously described: still headed 'Effective July 1, 2023' and listing 2021 IBC/IPC/IMC/IFGC/IEBC/ISPSC, a residential/commercial IECC split (2015/2021), and an outright incorrect '2020 National Electrical Code' — none of these have been updated by the City. The statute is cited directly as governing throughout; the City's lagging document is preserved above as recorded history, not deleted.. Local amendments apply — see the West Point overview page for the full list.
