Tips
- Inspection requests must be scheduled at least one day in advance by calling the San Juan County Building Division at (505) 334-4313.
- A separate City of Aztec Land Use Permit ($25 for a new single-family dwelling plus a $10 administrative fee) and a $500 Parks/Open Space & Trails impact fee are required from the City in addition to the County-issued building permit — budget for both.
- Engineered truss drawings, stamped by the manufacturer, are required — a minimum 25-10-10 load design applies to conventional roofs; tile or low-slope built-up roofs require a greater load rating.
- A storage shed under 120 sq ft (about 10'x12') does not need a building permit, but a carport does, per the County's published FAQ.
