Sign Permit in Eloy, Arizona
Required for permanent and temporary commercial/business signage in Eloy, administered by the Community Development Department using a dedicated Sign Permit Application separate from the general Building Permit Application. When you need this permit
- A Sign Permit Application is required before installing permanent signage: attached/wall-mounted, projecting, awning/canopy, freeway pylon, window, electronic message center, or gas-filled signs (building signs), and freestanding/monument signs
- Temporary signage (banner signs, A-frame signs, yard signs, sign walkers) also requires identifying sign type, quantity, and location on the same Sign Permit Application
- Site Plan/Suite Layout Plan showing sign locations, dimensions, aggregate sign area, and street frontage widths required for all applications; freestanding/monument signs additionally require property lines, easements, and sight visibility triangles shown
- Freestanding/monument sign structural and footing details, and any new electrical circuitry plans to accommodate the sign, must be sealed by an Arizona-registered engineer/architect; if existing electrical circuitry will be used instead, the cover sheet must state 'No new electrical circuitry is required or will be provided for the sign(s)'
- Fascia modification or exterior color changes to a building or a fuel/gas/energy station canopy are NOT allowed, approved, or permitted through a Sign Permit — these require a separate Minor Site Plan Application, and building elevations submitted with a sign application must match previously-approved Site Plan elevations
- 'Sign' is defined per Zoning Ordinance Section 21-9-1 to include any visual element or device designed to attract attention or convey information for a business/service/product/organization, including logos, banners, balloons, streamers, inflatable structures, projected picture signs, and holographic projection signs
- Property Owner Authorization (or a notarized Property Owner's Permission Form) is required when the applicant is an agent (lawyer, planner, architect, landscape architect, etc.) rather than the property owner
- Sign Permit Application expires 180 days after the last plan submittal

Tips
- No dedicated field-inspection step for an installed sign is separately published in the Sign Permit Application, its checklist, or the City's fee schedule (unlike the C of O department sign-off chain used for full building permits) — confirm with Community Development (520-466-2578) whether a final sign inspection is conducted before treating the sign as closed out.
- As of the FY 2026-2027 fee schedule (effective July 1, 2026), sign permit and plan review fees are itemized per sign by type and area (pylon $1,050; freestanding/monument $210; other signs $33/$65/$98 by area, with plan review $24/$48/$72 per sign, or hourly for tall/large freestanding signs) — the former practice of billing signs on the general building-permit valuation table was replaced.
- Fascia modifications and color changes to a building or fuel/gas/energy station canopy cannot be approved through a Sign Permit even if a sign is involved — that requires a separate Minor Site Plan Application, and any building elevations submitted with the sign application must match previously-approved Site Plan elevations.
