Tips
- The City does not publish a named commercial inspection-sequence checklist; the sequence above reflects the inspection stages required by the adopted codes (2018 IBC and trade codes) and the fee schedule's own line items (2 inspections per phase included; Temporary C of O available). To schedule any inspection, call (928) 722-7399 or email the Permit Technician at least one business day in advance.
- Related commercial § 9-835 timeline rows: 'Commercial Building – Elec./Plumb/Mech.' is 11 business days (1/5/5), 'Commercial Building - Fire' (fire sprinkler/alarm work) is 11 business days, 'Commercial Building – Tower' is 19 business days (2/10/7), 'Commercial Building – Shade Structure' is 12 business days (2/5/5), and 'Signs' is 12 business days (2/5/5).
- Fire-protection work is routed through the City's own Fire Department fee schedule in the same Resolution No. 2026-004 (e.g., Fire Sprinkler alterations $38 for 1-25 heads / $71 for 26-50 heads; Fire Alarm $38-$104 by device count; fuel tank installation $68; plan-review standby at $54/hour) — Somerton adopted NFPA-1 (2018) as its fire code rather than the IFC.
- Somerton is a farming-economy border city: the Commercial/Industrial Project Data Sheet has a dedicated checkbox requiring an additional 10-foot buffer area when the site is adjacent to AG-zoned land, and industrial vs. commercial landscaping percentages are itemized separately.
- Expedited commercial plan review (10 business days) is available at double the plan review fee, per Resolution No. 2026-004.
- The City's Building & Safety Plans Examiner can be reached at (928) 920-7094 for pre-submittal questions, per the Drawing Submittal Requirements for New Commercial/Industrial Plans.
