When you need this permit
- All signs require a permit unless exempt under LDR Division 5.6 — review sign regulations first, since certain materials, colors, and elements (e.g. lighting) are prohibited
- Permitted sign categories: projecting signs, wall signs, canopy signs, monument & entry signs, and freestanding signs
- Standard Sign Permit Application submitted by email only to planning@jacksonwy.gov; decision made by the Planning Director
- Master Signage Plan is optional, intended for buildings/sites with three or more tenants/businesses; it sets the total signage amount and allocation per business but does NOT itself approve any individual sign design
- Temporary Sign Permit required for banners or signs advertising special events of limited duration; standard temporary signs require Town Council approval (submit at least 6 weeks before a Town Council meeting, held the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month); grand-opening signs are approved administratively by the Planning Director (up to 2 weeks)
- Notarized Letter of Authorization required if the applicant is not the property owner
- Monument/entry signs over 4 feet in height additionally require a Commercial Building Permit, per the Commercial Building Permit Application's 'What Requires a Permit' list

Tips
- No post-installation field inspection step is published for sign permits on the Town's Sign Permit, Master Sign Permit, or Temporary Sign Permit pages — approval is an administrative Planning Director (or, for standard temporary signs, Town Council) sign-off rather than a field-inspected permit type; this is a verified absence, not an oversight.
- A Master Signage Plan does not approve any individual sign — it only sets the total signage area/allocation across tenants at a multi-tenant site. Each tenant's actual sign still needs its own Sign Permit.
- Monument or entry signs taller than 4 feet trigger an additional Commercial Building Permit on top of the Sign Permit, per the Commercial Building Permit Application's permit-trigger list.
- Paper applications are rejected across all three sign permit tracks — email planning@jacksonwy.gov exclusively.
